Spot the Mistake!

How many mistakes can you find?  We have found six (seven actually - same one twice)!
Do people not proof read anymore?
I have blocked out certain information so not to cause embarrassment.

Click on pictures and take a closer look
List the words in your comment
Answers tomorrow and I will send a little prize to the first one out of the hat!

What's this.............

I was given this panel yesterday.
(click on pictures to take a closer look)

I looks like an apron ready to embroider the cut out and stitch together, which I am sure that is what it is.
But although it gives the backing it is not a mirror image.
The back is larger than the front.
Front panel
This panel looks like part of the waistband

But then I looked again this morning and thought perhaps it is a bag........

In the days before plastic surgery............circa 16 July 1937!

In the days when it seems it was ok to really hurt peoples feelings by making them feel inadequate in the "womanly figure" department! Amazing really, were women really "pitied by women and ignored by men" if they were less than well endowed. Most intriguing though is what was the "something" that they would send you?  As they used to say "answers on a postcard......."

Cold and Fresh!

I wouldn't say it was cold..........
but the ice was standing upright on the car
this morning!
The grass looked like it has had a fine covering of snow!

Everthing was white and still!

The English Language

After buying this cake for Alex to take to work share the celebration of

the birth of our Grandson on Monday

We noticed the wording on the box
"Finished with edible decorations and candles"
does it mean we can eat the candles too..........?

What do I do................?

Underneath the pile of lovely juicy pears is a saying

"Look to the future, never mind the past"
I love Vintage, I love looking round
Charity Shops and Antique Shops
what do I do..............?
....................................and Museums!!!
So this year I have decided to do this............................
After reading Jan's blog,
and having already mentioned in a
conversation with her that..........
1. Use from stash.
Not to buy anything at all until 1st January, 2012.
(may need to buy reel thread or wadding to finish
a project - acceptable)
2. Be careful about what I spend.
Just purchase what is needed foodwise.
3. Only buy from charity-shops if I really need the item -
think very carefully first.
Pretty dresses for Caitlin - acceptable
4. DO NOT BUY anymore books
I have enough!
Search the particular out at the local library
can use Taunton Library and return locally
I'll let keep you posted on how I get on...................

Tea Cosy Covers

Have you ever wonder about these Tea Cosy Covers.........? Too thin to keep the tea warm, about as useful as a chocolate teapot............!!!!!
Well the Victorians are to blame. They covered everything from tables and piano legs to well.....tea cosies!
They made a padded plain cosy for the warmth from old blankets or eiderdowns, and had various covers, so if the cover got dirty or stained they were able to wash them, I think it is a clever idea, one cosy lots of covers. Sometimes the china, tea cloth and napkins would all match.

The tea cosy was probably invented by the Duchess of Bedford who invented afternoon tea, because there was a long time between lunch and dinner. Friends were invited for afternoon tea chatted the tea in the pot would get cold.
You will find these tea cosies here with a few other vintage linens.

No..........it's a potato found at the back of the fridge
trying to take on a life of its own!
It was only meant to be there a couple of days
that was sometime ago.......................

The Capacitor, The Garden and a Mystery!

Well the man who knows and does Did!
He repaired my Kenwood Chef Mixer.
After it filled the kitchen with smoke we opened the
mixer operated on its internals and found this!
This nasty mess is the the capacitor that caused the trouble!
Alex found another and fixed it - isn't he clever?
I apprehensively started the mixer and made this.........
I made this with the usual sponge recipe.
This time I added some Cherries, but as you see they sank!
I did roll them in some of the weighed out flour but to no avail!
If you don't like cherries try other fruit.
This morning we did some gardening again.

In answer to some of the comments as to how
we managed to garden in the hot weather last week,
we actually get up early and in the garden between
8.30 and 9 am and come in when the sun gets too warm.
Now we are up to the prickly bit.
The Yucca has razor sharp leaves
and the Brambles are just too prickly!
And finally a footnote - pardon the pun!
The numbers you see in Alex's slippers,
he can count honest!
The numbers are formed by grass
and in the correct order,
but the mystery is how did the numbers
get there..............?

Sunday!

Sunday in our house is doing odd jobs that need doing, doing jobs that must be done, and doing things we want to do! Today I've ironed half the ironing pile, I wanted to get on with other things. I have made one of these and one of these, and now I am putting a few stitches in this! Oh yes and rang two good friends.

I found this little box a charity shop 15 pence!
That's our Sunday today as you see not a lot has got DONE!
Too many things to do and not enough HOURS!
Has anybody out there got any spare hours?

This and That........again!

I haven't really looked at the computer for a few days, I don't know why I haven't really done much since my last post. That post made me feel like the oldest blogger on the blogs! All of my four and fifty and a half years! I don't feel it though I do actually feel much younger! But, with that blog I would like to say that you all may have heard one of the Manfreds songs in recent years! "Handbags and Gladrags" The Stereophonics sang it as did Rod Stewart and it was used for the signature tune to Ricky Gervais' "The Office".

First of all I would like to thank Michela for my PIF gift.

I finished this cross stitch for a birthday present
for my boss Janet, she always said she liked it so I thought
I would surprise her - now I have to make it into a cushion!
It was taken from this book

Got my lamp from out of summer "hibernation" to help
me work on these dark nights.
It looks rather like "Pixar" don't you think
bought this material for my PIF gifts
I would also like to thank Gillian for being my third person

Started an Enid Blyton collection for Caitlin, I even
found my Noddy book "Noddy Goes to the Fair"
Found this book of Angels in a charity shop

Another charity shop find!
Something else for Caitlin -
for when we do messy things
at nanny's house!

Fireworks.....what fireworks?

Was it or was it not Guy Fawkes night last night?
Gun Powder Treason and Plot and all that........
I thought goodie I'll try and capture some
fireworks going off with my camera.
Well I waited, and waited but to no avail
no fireworks were seen,
but while I was waiting I thought I would
just point the camera and take photographs.
This was the results!

Hallowe'en...........

.......the night when the dead are said to rise from their graves,
witches and goblins are thought to be at their most active.
The time for mishief making and magic!

A traditional Hallowe'en decoration is a Pumpkin or Turnip lantern head.
To make a Pumpkin or Turnip head slice of the top and and scoop out the
flesh. The cut a face into the skin and put a candle inside

From ghoulies and ghosties and long legged beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
Good Lord, deliver us!
(Cornish prayer)

Cobwebs

I find cobwebs fascinating!
This one has been spun like an
infinity tunnel
