Are...............Amaryllis suppose to bloom in July?

After it finished flowering over a year ago I just chucked it in the garden.  Didn't do anything with it until I tidied that patch of the garden, I just tidied it up by cutting of the shrivelled stork and cut the leaves off and tucked it in a corner.  I spotted a bud in the rain the other day.

Whilst wondering around the garden in the rain, I noticed this..........

an Amaryllis in bud,

bought it indoors.

Bay

My bay tree was one twig in a pot and cost me ten pence because the sell-by date was up and that was when Somerfilelds went broke and was sold to Co-op a while ago now, at least  twelve years ago if not more!

Now it has a something nasty going on on lots of leaves, so it will have to be cut back this year

Chinese Silk, Two Dolly Pegs and a Willing Husband!

A couple of years ago I was given a skein of Chinese silk.  Hands up who remembers winding a skein of wool into a ball?  Today I needed a thickish blue thread, this silk was ideal, but we hit a snag.  What do I do, chair or husband.........  Alex (husband) who also remembers winding knitting wool into a ball was willing to hold the skein for ten minutes while I wound the silk into a ball, but being silk its springy, it would not have stayed in a ball.

DAISY

My Shasta Daisy is in bud, can't wait to see the large white blooms, with large yellow centres.  This is a large headed Daisy.  It is actually from stock that once belonged to my grandmother. Whenever our family moves house we always take part of the Daisy patch with us!  I hope our sons carry on the tradition!

always get decapitated when the lawn is cut

they do grow again - but the same thing will happen again in a moment when we cut the grass again before it starts raining again.  But as they always do they will grow again.

Finished.......and Friday!

I have finished my embroidery - the pattern is on my Pinterest board.  I also have another very similar in one of  my vintage magazines which I will also do as a companion piece.

  

I then did this! Gasp - Shock - Horror  please don't be afraid........................  This time it was washed at 95 degrees!

so that is phase one - I will being doing phase two in the week and phase three when it stops raining and the sun is out again.............funny how you miss opportunities to do something........... perhaps I just wasn't meant to do the phase three job then........

Lytes Cary Manor courtyard

Friday we decided to go out for the day, we went to Lytes Cary

Detail of a stump work mirror.  The stitches are so small and delicate!

Detail of a quilt. .Click on photo and have a closer look, the hexagon shapes are actually one piece and not pieces joined together - an idea and patience needed, but I will have a go!

Teasels in flower, a delicate mauve/lavender colour.  I have only ever seen these flowers dried and on seats in some National Trust properties to stop people sitting on the chairs on show.

Then we went on to East Somerset Railway

The little blue engine took us for a thirty minute ride up the track and back again.  We got off at the engine sheds and walked back to the station.

This vintage phone box is at the station is very interesting, not just a phone box but sold stamps too!

This photo was taken in the car of Minehead in the distance at St Audries.  There was nowhere to stop to take photo.  I wasn't driving by-the-way!
