F is for....................

Fair, Fest and Fun

Saturday afternoon a week ago, we sold at a boot fair.  We made ourselves £67 in a couple of hours.  This boot fair at Blue Anchor Somerset, is great.  The lady who runs it is very strict.  We arrived at about 12.30pm and joined the queue of cars to go onto the field.  The gates do not open until 1 o'clock on the dot, when you are then directed down the field.  We were lucky we were on an end.  We were not worried by dealers sorting through our stuff before we were able to set up properly because everyone more-or-less had the same time to set up, obviously the ones who were positioned first were able to start setting up before the last car was parked on the field, although a man from about three cars up saw Alex had records and he came to look.  The gates open for the buyers at 2pm.  When the gates opened there was a bit of a rush, some people rushed through to start at the far end of the field and work their way back to the beginning, and some people start at the beginning eventually they met on our row.  It was a hot tiring enjoyable afternoon.  We didn't go home with more than we came with either, as we stood by our car the whole time, we were not tempted to even look at the surrounding cars close to us.  I took a little picnic and when we came home via the fish and chip shop, we were surprised just how much we took as it just didn't seem that amount at the time.

Yesterday, we went to Taunton to see the Taunton Fest.  Lots of things were going on around the town.  Kayaking on the river, music, crafts and the market.  The town was hot and very crowded.  It was a nice morning though.  We had lunch out with some of the money we earned at the boot fair last week.  We decided when we got back from the boot fair we would spend the money on us this week.

Yesterday was our wedding anniversary, and on Monday is Alex' birthday so we will do something later in the week for that too.

Jolly Weekend!

Beautiful weekend, well in the Southwest anyway! Anybody would think it was a height of summer, but alas no it is 2nd October, something to do with the Gulf Stream! And it is very disconcerting that is is really hot and it gets dark by 7.30 and getting dark earlier every minute. Bit too hot for me I'm afraid, I don't do heat very well. We both had a wonderful weekend though. First of all we went to Taunton yesterday morning just to look at the shops I bought Liam some clothes (a fur lined jacket would you believe?) for part of his Christmas presents; I also tried to purchase cotton sheeting for the quilts I am making but the shop said they were ordering Monday. Then we had lunch, did a bit more looking round the shops.  When the time for the carpark was up we drove to here and had a fun afternoon Great place for nostalgia in childhood TV. I can actually say I remember every Dr. Who since 1963 with William Hartnell (never thought then I would actually have a son who would appear in an episode of Dr Who) and although I personally was not allowed to watch much TV especially on days weatherwise like today, and I was only allowed to watch things approved by mum, and remember TV was not 24hrs then either I could name nearly every character!........Oh! I feel really old!

There was a different varieties of radios

and televisions in every corner and space possible
Muffin the Mule - one of the first television puppets

as well as many toys and games with a TV theme

as well as books and annuals

as well as radio annuals
I remember this character very well.  He is called Twizzle.  Twizzle had concertina legs who always helped his friends.  Is there anyone else would like to remember Twizzle.......?
photo collection of the Man from Uncle
I have a blank wall in my kitchen, I asked for a large picture of David McCallum
Wasn't allowed one!

after afternoon tea and cake at the museum
we went to see Hen and her lovely family and wonderful cottage

I purchased this for Caitlin, but grany thinks she may keep it to be played with only at her house.  The dollies are mine from when I was Caitlins age.  I managed to find the knitting pattern to re-make the white clothes!
Yes that is a grass skirt you see on the black doll, but it has been there since she was created probably the early fifties!

This morning we went a book fair and bought these Caitlin and Liam
after lunch we went to the station to see what was there as it was a Steam Weekend.
...........it was Norton Manor having a photo-shoot on the turntable!  Something us locals don't often see because they only seem to use it for special weekends!

Cornish Pasty's........................?
It seems the whole franchise is wrong!
someone else has complained about it too!

Holiday at Windowsill Bay - 2

I am not a happy bunny today! I feel like the child who is told you cannot have ice cream if you don’t eat your tea! Perhaps I am being a spoilt brat but when I get told I could go to Totnes, come what may, on Friday 21st May, I expected to go! I really shouldn’t have boasted I was going to Totnes again after a ten year gap of not going, I should have kept quiet about it and told people afterwards. Well the chauffeur (I don’t drive - I don’t like driving so I don’t do it - long story) awoke this morning not feeling well (I‘m sure he does it on purpose!), so there I was laying in bed 7am the time we should be leaving Minehead for a two hour drive to South Devon. I somehow knew yesterday we wouldn’t be going out today so I don‘t know why I am so disappointed. I decided to get up put the washing in the machine, go on the computer and read “happy” blogs! I am thinking thoughts of Murder and how I could commit murder to three members of my family without being found out! I was told we can go to Totnes tomorrow……..‘TOMORROW!………..I should have chosen Tuesday to go then there would have been a fighting chance of getting there all I wanted to do was to go to the Market, I could go alone on the bus, but actually takes and hour to get out of Minehead! Reading Sal’s blog there is something going on in Exeter tomorrow too. I thought I can‘t have both because we were not staying in Okehampton.……..but on this occasion I would prefer to go to Totnes. If we had been staying in Okehampton we could have gone to Exeter on the way home!

Yesterday we played tourists for the afternoon, I bought an ice and sat looking out to sea, nothing unusual in that you might say but the ice cream was melting faster than I could eat it! Locally made ice cream with a good reputation, if I had taken it back there would not have been any evidence of it ever being in the cone, it would have looked like I had eaten it and gone back for a refill, I emailed a complaint, still awaiting reply.

Wednesday we saw Caitlin again, Peter was returning Richard to Minehead.

Monday we went to Taunton, a brief visit in town and tea and cake in the new tea shop in town, then out to the outskirts for a new computer monitor We really do need one and I thought really we could do with out the expenditure on such thing, but since having it for four days now I realise how bad the other one had got! I also nearly bought a new mixer on Ebay as the other gave up after thirty years of use but according to the man who knows it’s capacitor had blown up hence the smoke filled kitchen. Hoping for a repair soon! I have brought a new hand mixer but I do prefer to using my big mixer which is now laying a box awaiting this capacitor - one day!

I haven't done much!

I see I haven't posted for a fortnight.
I lead a very boring life!
I get up, breakfast, go to work, home by 12.30,
do housework then time to get dinner, then television!
My friend Jan sent me these old patterns, now I need
extra hours in my day....
Saturday went off to Taunton, we were wondering what was
established in 1775? It is now a disused pub!

Found these two items in a charity shop
both came to less than £5

Paid £1each for these in the local Poundland

..........and a £1 each for these in the same shop!

Sunday morning
spotted the Primroses arising from their winters rest

Chopped the tops of the Welsh Leek
which seems to have taken over the garden!

We'll dig the bulb bit up as we plant shrubs which will
smother the Welsh Leeks hopefully instead
of the other way round!
First of the many garden creatures
I wonder what this will grow into..........?

This afternoon I made these cards for shop display.
These three cards were made from one peel-off.

A Day Trip to Taunton!

We went to Taunton today. It must have been one of the hottest days of the year! As the day went on the hotter it got! Don't get me wrong I am definitely not complaining but we could have had more days like this! Today was a day for spotting things - like - these ducks basking in the morning sun, then driving along the high street was 'Car 58' well and English version of "Herby", and as we were walking back to the car a man in a kilt! Something that isn't often seen in these parts! Oh and a girl dressed in black with bright pink hair and stiletto shoes to match! We only went for a change of scenery!

It is the first Saturday after Christmas isn't it?

We have just had Christmas..............!
Today we went to Taunton to change two Christmas presents, and to buy a new mobile phone. We saw on the way bright yellow Daffodils in full bloom on the roadside, (it is normal here in this part of Somerset for this occurrence - I think this phenomenon made the National News once). Then when we were looking round the shops we saw in amongst the Winter Sales, Valentine cards and other Valentine goodies and Easter Eggs. Forgive me but isn't Valentines in February, and Easter in March this year. We don't have a problem with special days and holidays, but we would like to get over one event before starting another!
