Just a post

My little jug of sunshine!

I have had a stinking cold since Sunday with flu like symptoms, and I have been coughing well!  I caught it off the grandchildren.  I think 'someone up there is getting their own back'  When I was about eight I gave my own grandparents mumps!  I haven't been feeling at all well which is unusual for me, I usually try and keep going but this time I haven't felt like doing anything, but today I feel a lot better and ready to start again slowly!

I think my bulbs I had for Christmas are feeling like me!  The hyacinths were a gift from my friend Jane, I planted them on 1st January, not sure what is happening with them, they get watered regularly, but their growth seems to be stunted!

My Amaryllis a gift from my friend Janice, planted the same day, but I see it has a bud now so things are looking up!
See the Oak tree in the background of this picture.........  This morning I watched a chase round the branches of the tree consisting of a blackbird in the lead followed by two squirrels, it really brightened my day, it looked so funny!

Well its called Dendrobium Orchid, we thought we had killed it because all but three leaves went yellow and dropped off!  Then I saw shoots rising from the bottom, so we have been carefully watering it with saved rain water.  Hope we get more flowers this year!

This poor butterfly has been fluttering around my house since we brought the Christmas decorations down from the loft last year, which have since been packed them away and other activities  have been going on.  Then the other day I found the poor thing was just lying there.  It is now in a box awaiting to be given to my friend Ginny.  She and her husband David give lectures on Butterflies and Moths around the Exmoor area.

  1. Hope you will feel better soon. I too have been under the weather with a virus which has caused much coughing and loss of voice - your little jug of sunshine has brightened my day too!

  2. Colds and coughs are miserable aren't they especially when you want to get on with things but just don't have the energy to do so. I do hope you are feeling better soon. Your blackbird and squirrel chase sounds like it was fun to watch. Good luck with your plants.

  3. Snap! (Offers limp High Five...) I also have a little jug of sunshine (see my blog) AND I've had that awful chesty cough since Saturday - just in time for my first fair of 2014 on Sunday. Luckily Mr EM was my guardian and unpaid "intern" helping with the unloading etc and looking after customers as my voice became huskier and huskier. Had to take to my bed on Monday though, but gradually getting better. So many friends seem to have suffered from it this year. I blame the continuous damp weather conditions. Ho hum! Wishing you a speedy recovery as well Julie! Cx

    1. Perhaps I shouldn't blame the grandchildren after all!

  6. I hope that you are feeling much better now Julie. My husband has just started his second lot of antibiotics after being ill for most of February. Lovely jug of sunshine to remind us of better weather to come. Poor butterfly, I am surprised that it survived as long as it did. x

My mum threw away 3 unsuccesfull bulbs right this morning, we had them since Xmas and neither the heat nor daylight helped.
