Our Weekend!

I know most of you had Mothering Sunday and that was very special, but my weekend was a Mothering Sunday special!

On the Saturday although it was chilly and a few drops of rain which held off most of the afternoon was our youngest son Peter's wedding to Steph.

Lots of friends and relatives came to see them get married at Fingle Bridge Inn, Drewsteignton

The place had a lovely atmosphere and everyone was so friendly.

On the Sunday, the weather changed tremendously, so Michael and Lizzie and  Robert and Anneka, and our close friends decided it would be best if they went home early.  Dad had organised lunch for us and Cynthia. We had a blizzard!

I had these flowers given to me as the mother of the groom.

 One of the table decorations

And this little beauty.  He is a specimen vase.  Isn't it gorgeous!

On Monday dad had a dental appointment so he didn't join us at Castle Drogo.  I had been wanting to go here for a long time, but when we arrived we were very disappointed.  it was just a shell of a castle all the exhibits had been put into storage.  The National Trust had decided to keep the castle open to the public but anybody going would be very disappointed.  The roof has been leaking for a long time and now serious repairs are needing to be done.  I can see why the National Trust kept the castle open for the revenue but I'm sure like us people will be disappointed!

I wouldn't say it was cold after the blizzard the day before but there were icicles hanging from the walls.

Two Kitchen Ranges

Most of the rooms were opened and some that they opened that the public doesn't normally see. but there was nothing to see only the views.

But someone had a sense of humour!

and there was some hilarity from this room!

  4. Congratulations to your son and his bride - hope they will be very happy! The specimen vase is very sweet. What a shame the castle was disappointing - maybe it will improve once repairs have been done?

  5. Congratulations to your son and new daughter-in-law. It's lucky they chose Saturday to get married and not Sunday with a blizzard blowing. Lovely flowers, it sounds like you all had a fabulous day.

  9. This post reminds me of when we went to cornwall and took a boat trip to see the puffins and seals. We didn't see either and when I asked the skipper he said it wasn't the time for the Puffins and you only saw a seal if it popped its head out of the water. I can laugh now but I was really annoyed at the time.
thanks for the comment on Princess, she hasn't ventured out at all today but oh what a horrible experience last night.

  15. Awwa Congratulations to your Son and new Daughter in law!! What a lovely way to spend the mothering Sunday weekend! oh I can understand your disappointment on the castle, near where my parents live on the I.O.W. there is a beautiful old house, run by English Heritage, when we first went we were expecting a stately home to look round but all is left is the decaying shell, its, sad to see its gradual demise. But its beautiful in its own sad way xx
