Amaryllis - Week 7 - not had one doing that before..........

Sorry a day late!  Nothing odd in this photo you may think.  I had my suspicions for a few days, but hadn't mentioned it before.  Go to last post and click on the top picture and take a closer look can you see it?  I'll come back to the Amaryllis later.............  I like surprises don't you?

We had a mini-break with my dad at the end of last week.  We went to Tavistock on the wettest day of the week.  I couldn't resist photographing the beautiful weather-vane.

When we came back we restarted work in the garden on Saturday morning.  It was a lovely day on Saturday, even got washing dried on the line.

We cleared the last bit

Most of it went into one bag.  We dodge the rain on Sunday to just clear up the last of dried twigs and brambles, now rain has stopped play again!

The first of the Primroses in bloom

and...............Sir Henry Robin keeping and eye on us.  He oftens sings while we work.

Back to the Amaryllis........... Can you see it...............?

YES!  We have a third flower!

Amaryllis - Week 6

The Amaryllis is fading, but we have a second one growing fast behind.

Rain has stopped play in the garden for a while.  Once this bit has been cleared that will be stage one for this area.  The growth has been cut at the bottom so there is nothing holding it up so you would think it would just drop or blow off in a gust of wind, no..... it is clinging onto the fence with dear life, so we are having to get the loppers to cut it away.   It cannot bee seen but we have a shed out of shot of the right hand side.  This had been a dumping ground for many years and now we will have to clear it, we made the mess so.......,  some of it will stay, for a little wild life place, it cannot be seen.

Something for Valentines Day

We have often seen two pigeons feeding together.
(sorry its not clear, took the photo through the window as I didn't want them to fly off)

Amaryllis - week 5 and the Garden again

My Amaryllis seems to have a character all of its own this week!
I have taken a photo every day......

This was last Monday

Saturday

As you see we are tackling thorns which are very long and quite viscous!
The stalks more like mini tree trunks are about an inch in diameter.  We fill a bag which takes about forty minutes then we come in for coffee, and tackle more the next day.
I did feel a bit guilty about the birds habitat, then I thought well if we had just moved into this property the first thing we would have done was clear the bottom of the garden.  We only found one old birds nest in amongst the brambles, I thought there was going to be loads..........

I have put some of these in my Folksy shop - see side bar

taken Friday night about 9pm
I swear the bud is smiling................

taken Saturday afternoon about 4pm
In less than twenty-four hours we have this

taken 9.15am

It looking lovely - thank you Jane - my best friend Jane - its a pity she doesn't have a blog she is a very good photographer, and she has an excellent way with words.

We haven't managed to get into the garden since last Tuesday.  We must be the only place that actually has not seen snow!  Not one flake!  We have had very heavy rain, and hail but no snow!

I have finished my second commission of the year though

It didn't help though that the pattern was wrong!  This is for a lady who I tried to teach crochet to, but she just couldn't get her head round it, I haven't given up on her though, I will try again when she is ready.

Just a post

My little jug of sunshine!

I have had a stinking cold since Sunday with flu like symptoms, and I have been coughing well!  I caught it off the grandchildren.  I think 'someone up there is getting their own back'  When I was about eight I gave my own grandparents mumps!  I haven't been feeling at all well which is unusual for me, I usually try and keep going but this time I haven't felt like doing anything, but today I feel a lot better and ready to start again slowly!

I think my bulbs I had for Christmas are feeling like me!  The hyacinths were a gift from my friend Jane, I planted them on 1st January, not sure what is happening with them, they get watered regularly, but their growth seems to be stunted!

My Amaryllis a gift from my friend Janice, planted the same day, but I see it has a bud now so things are looking up!
See the Oak tree in the background of this picture.........  This morning I watched a chase round the branches of the tree consisting of a blackbird in the lead followed by two squirrels, it really brightened my day, it looked so funny!

Well its called Dendrobium Orchid, we thought we had killed it because all but three leaves went yellow and dropped off!  Then I saw shoots rising from the bottom, so we have been carefully watering it with saved rain water.  Hope we get more flowers this year!

This poor butterfly has been fluttering around my house since we brought the Christmas decorations down from the loft last year, which have since been packed them away and other activities  have been going on.  Then the other day I found the poor thing was just lying there.  It is now in a box awaiting to be given to my friend Ginny.  She and her husband David give lectures on Butterflies and Moths around the Exmoor area.

Yarn Market - Dunster Somerset

This timber-framed octagonal market hall built about 1590, is a monument to Dunster's once flourishing cloth trade.  Dunster had become a centre for woollen and clothing production by 13th century.  It was built by George Lutterell for traders to shelter traders and their wares from the rain.  I live about fifteen minutes by car away!  And, if you ever see the repeats of Poirot, the episode called the Cornish Mystery was filmed here!

You can read more about Dunster here

When I worked in a craft shop.  One summer a holiday maker came in.  Quite a young girl with her partner.  Conversation went..........

Young girl to her partner.........................I won't get any wool today, we can go to the yarn market              tomorrow, I'll just get this for now.

Me...................Oh where is the yarn market?

Young girl................Dunster

Me...............I think you will be a bit disappointed

Young girl............................Why?

Me...........................Its an ancient monument

Young girl...............No it said Yarn Market open Sundays Dunster it must sell yarn

Me............... No ancient monument.

Young girl and partner left shop

Boss...........I think they will be disappointed

Me............Yes and I hope they don't come back and complain...............

Happy Birthday Peter

Our son was twenty-seven yesterday.
It only seemed five minutes ago he was just born on a cold snowy day 5th February 1986!

We had a great 'mini' picnic in the back of the car on Monday.  Grandad put an old sheet in the back of the car before we left just in case if anything  got squashed into the seat, but in the end we only had crisp crumbs!
We had sausage roll, and crisps, mini cakes nana made on Sunday and a bowl of washed grapes which Caitlin and Liam eat all of.  The nana and grandad spent the afternoon in AJ's and as a treat we eat tea there.  But AJ's have a strict no camera policy so no photos.

This is not the time!

.The sun is shining the sky is blue so do I feel like I don't want to do anything?

The yellow daffodils sprang into life

now they are ready for the compost!

I started a quilt, but for the last couple of days things have come to a stand still, because..........I should be de-cluttering, I should be tidying, my brain is saying don't just sit there do something!  I know what I should be doing, I know what I want to do, I know what I would prefer to do.  So for the rest of the day I will take it easy and try and bounce into action tomorrow she says!

I tried to bounce into action today by tidying my needlework basket and box........these are not the only two I have another two with projects in that need sorting too!

Tomorrow have to finish a jumper I started well before Christmas for Liam.  I t is ok it will still fit him because I knit to grow into at this age!

Tomorrow I have to finish printing off the menus and order of the day and cut up place names for Peter and Steph's wedding in four weeks time!

Tomorrow I will be preparing a mini picnic for Monday.  We are grandchildren minding which we are looking forward to, the first time on their own with nana and grandad.

Perhaps in a few days I will come back with a "TAH DA" or two, she says hopefully..........
